Joel's Birth Story! (from nannas point of view)

I'll be honest it has taken me a while to finally post this and decide on which version I like best but this one made the cut. I know it's almost been a year but if you know me you know how much I love my niece and nephews and how much I love photography then you understand. My sister blessed me with the opportunity to do my first birthstory. The cool thing about that is I was able to be there for Joel's birth. I wanted to give a birthstory that is from the view of an sister, aunt, and best friend. I was sitting in class in February when I recieved a call from my sister.. of course since I was in class I had to ignore it but a very troubling feeling came over since we had just been at the doctors that morning. I responded immediately with a text and recieved one back saying that they were headed to the hospital to have the baby and to stay and finish class... Do you think I listened? so being the person I am I left class and headed to the hospital. When I got there I was able to meet them at registration and then we waited.. I am so grateful for the nurse that took care of my sister she was an answere to our prayers. Finally things got moving and next thing you know a door seperated us. Good thing it was only for a few minutes because I was getting nervous and if you know me nerves and I don't get along to well. We headed back and got dad ready for his big depute as he was to stay with Brooke as Jose was to stay with baby. Anyways the nurse came and got me, my mom and dad and brought us into the back room of the delivery room everything was very interesting and the spirit was felt so strong. Within a few minutes but to us it felt like hours the baby was out and screaming just like his momma. Dad was brought in and Jose came out to the room with the baby. Baby sounded amazing, weighed a wopping 10 lbs. 6.9 oz. which is 7 oz. He had so much hair and then they laid him down and I saw his eyes. That is when I got to meet my baby jo jo! Salvador Joel David Rodriguez made his way into my heart at that instance. Tears and laughs were shared as a few more things were checked. Then the feeling in the room changed with a single look from a nurse.. I had to get out of there, At that time the loss of control was to much and the unknown had set in. Within seconds the NICU team was there and Joel was getting rushed out with his daddy following. Brooke was with my dad and she was doing great. When they got her into post op we were able to go in and talk her thru things. She was never alone. Jose met us there and updated all of us on Joel's condition. He was really struggling to breathe as we expected but with Eli we had him back within a couple of hours. I stayed as mom and dad left to rest up and Brookes blood sugar dropped. She then became very ill. The nurse was concerned and kept in touch with the doctor all night. Jose was up with Joel and I had the chance to sit with my sister. My sister is one of the toughest, most caring people in the world. It was so neat and special to me to be able to be there with her. Around 3 in the morning I headed home. I went back in the morning and switched rotations with Jose so he could check on Eli and shower. That night was my night with Brooke. We slept pretty good and every 2 hours she got up and walked up to feed Joel. By early morning she was exhausted so she slept and went up to feed him a bottle. It was so special to me that I was able to spend time alone with this innocent perfect baby. I wouldnt' trade it for the world. The next day the nurses were probably frustrated with me but I had to shower there and head to class. When I got done I went back to the hospital and was so happy to hear such good news. Baby was getting discharged later that night from the NICU. Jose stayed that night and they were able to spend time as a family with the brand new member. The next day they were finally discharged! It is amazing how much the Lord and our Heavenly Father love and bless us in so many ways. I couldn't imagine my life without the knowledge of everlasting life. My testimony was stregnthened and my love for my family expanded. I truly believe in this church. I truly believe in miracles. and I truley believe in love. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have!
